Exercise Medicine

Overweight and obesity are the major problems seen amongst the youngster of this generation. Several health problems are associated with overweight and obesity, including heart disease and strokes, diabetes, hypertension, high blood pressure, certain types of cancer, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, fatty liver diseases, kidney diseases, and pregnancy problems, such as high blood sugar during pregnancy, high blood pressure, and increased risk for cesarean delivery (C-section). Gaining a few pounds in a year is not a big deal, but these pounds can add up over time and give birth to unwanted Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD’s). Exercise is the first and the last medicine you need to get over these Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD’s).
According to a WHO report, 4.2 million people die due to NCD every year. The movement you make to keep yourself healthy and alive is your new medicine. Incorporating regular exercise into daily activity may prevent the development of cardiovascular diseases and accompanying risk factors. Doing a lot of physical activity is as effective as drugs when it comes to preventing death from diabetes and cardiovascular disease. One can improve its sleep and endurance by adding exercise in their daily schedule. And scientists are working more on obtaining physical activity’s medicinal properties. These days people have become inactive enough and to bring them back to their healthy lifestyle we bring you India’s first ever Exercise Medicine Clinic ~ Körperkraft Medicare Centre.

What is Exercise Medicine?

The vision of exercise is medicine, a global health initiative managed by the Asian College of Exercise and Sports Medicine (ACESM) Malaysia, and now in India with the help of Dr. MD. Majid Khan. The aim of this concept is to make physical activity assessment and promoting a standard in clinical care, connecting health care with evidence-based physical activity resources for people everywhere and of all abilities or with movement limitations.
The physicians and other health care providers are asked to include physical activity when designing treatment plans and to refer patients to evidence-based exercise programs and qualified exercise professionals. It is committed to the belief that physical activity promotes optimal health and is integral in the prevention and treatment of many medical conditions.

What is the future of exercise as medicine or exercise medicine?

Dr. Lee says it's time to add physical activity to the list of daily health requirements, such as wearing a seat belt or brushing your teeth. "There really is nothing I can think of where physical activity will not help in terms of disease or function," he says.
Take this prescription: Aim for 30-45 min of moderate physical activity most days of the week, or 5-6 Days a week.
If that seems daunting, start with a few minutes a day, and increase the amount you exercise by five or 10 minutes every week until you reach your goal.

Founder of exercise medicine

Dr. CP Lee is the founder of the exercise as medicine. He currently works at the MS New Symphony Exercise Clinic, Asia College of Exercise and Sports Medicine and is also the CEO of the International Scientific Committee on Exercise Medicine, Chaired by Dr. Jessy Lai.
They are working currently on their new project 'Graded Cool Down Process in Exercise'.
